Description
The nearly forgotten illuminated Breastplate of Saint Patrick created by Listowel born artist Michael O’Connor in 1961 is a creation of “national treasure” status. This wonderful painting was itself under a spell of concealment in a much more mundane way than Patrick and his monks. It was recovered from a dilapidated frame that had been shoved between a cabinet and a heating radiator for many years. Fortunately this marvel of Celtic art has been restored by Kerry Writers’ Museum and is finally getting recognition more than fifty years after the artist’s death.
The original work can be seen in the museum, but this limited edition print is now available to purchase. All sales proceeds will go towards the hosting of the International Day of Celtic Art Conference to be held in Listowel from June 11th to 14th, 2026.
