Architectural Assets in Photographic and
Video Collections in North Kerry
DATE
October 3rd, 2025
The mid-twentieth century witnessed a remarkable upsurge in community photography, film and video making in North Kerry. The collections that survive constitute a remarkable body of intangible heritage assets in terms of accelerating social change in rural Ireland. Buried within this archive is an extraordinary record of changes in the built environment, a sort of archaeology on film.
In this presentation Ciarán Walsh, Curator of the Kerry Film & Digital Media Archive at Kerry Writers’ Museum will explore these changes through the work of photographer Tony Fitzmaurice and filmmaker Jimmy Deenihan, whose collections were recently donated to the Archive.
Featuring unseen film footage of Brendan Kennelly at Carrigafoyle Castle in 1992.
This free event is part of Architecture Kerry 2025 organised by Kerry County Council.
