Wildlife Friendly Gardening

DATE

May 22nd, 2026

To celebrate National Biodiversity Week, Kerry Writers’ Museum presents a talk by Anneke Vrieling O’Connor on Wildlife Friendly Gardening. The event will explore how gardens of every size can become thriving spaces for pollinators, birds, insects, and native wildlife, with a particular focus on pollinators and hedgehogs.  Participants will gain inspiration and practical ideas for creating greener, more sustainable outdoor spaces while learning how small changes in gardening practices can make a meaningful difference to local ecosystems.

A native of the Netherlands, Abbeyfeale based environmental scientist Anneke specialises in biodiversity and river ecosystems. She established the Abbeyfeale Wildlife Park in 2009 and published ‘Abbeyfeale Park – A Nature Guide’ in 2012. Anneke co-wrote Abbeyfeale Community Biodiversity Action Plan 2023-2027 and is currently an environmental scientist with Feale Biodiversity which aims to eradicate invasive alien species from the Feale catchment area and restore native flora and fauna.

Commences at 7 pm. Admission Free.

Supported by Kerry County Council Environmental Office.
