Theatre of the Hearthstone
Ireland’s Master Storyteller, the late Eamon Kelly called what he did the “theatre of the hearthstone – a diversion having its seed in the time when our forefathers sat at the mouth of a cave and listened to the happening of a day’s hunting”.
Inspired by Kelly’s description and the Irish Rambling House tradition with its sense of togetherness, Kerry Writers’ Museum invites the community to gather around the hearth for a spectacular carnival-style evening of entertainment in celebration of Culture Night 2024.
From 6 pm on Friday September 20th Listowel’s magnificent Square will transform into a lively festival ‘theatre’ featuring events that highlight the town’s rich cultural heritage. Events include:
- Tapestry of Tales: A showcase of storytelling talent of all ages. Featuring seasoned storytellers Shane Ibbs, Maria Gillen and Frances Kennedy, alongside acclaimed Leitrim poet Stephen Murphy and young storytellers from throughout the Kingdom.
- Drum Dance Ireland: Energetic performances that will get everyone moving.
- Balloon Modelling: Fun for all ages with creative balloon art.
- Tralee International Choir: Beautiful harmonies from a diverse choir.
- Music, Art, and Crafts: Enjoy the soulful tunes of the Flyshop Blues Band and explore the crafts and interactive art features by the Listowel Visual Artists Collective (LVAC).
- Rogu Mobius Fire Show: The evening’s highlight, a spectacular fire performance that will leave you in awe.
Culture Night 2024 at Kerry Writers’ Museum is supported by The Arts Council and Kerry County Council.
