What happens when art meets the rising tide?

At Kerry Writers’ Museum, the exhibition Flow: Rising Tides, Changing Shores asks us to reflect on how rising sea levels are reshaping the landscapes — and lives — of coastal communities along the Shannon Estuary and Somme Bay.

Created by French artist Carl Cordonnier with collaborators Sandra Suire (video), Hugo Cordonnier (music and sound), Madalina Obreja (violin), and Astrid Adler (harp), Flow is a multi-sensory experience that blends photography, digital projection, and sound to explore the profound effects of climate change on the places we call home.

A Meeting of Art and Environment

Unveiled on Sunday 5th October, Flow opened with an evening that filled the Museum with light, sound, and reflection. The exhibition transforms visual documentation into emotional storytelling — each image and soundscape drawing visitors into the delicate balance between land and sea, nature and humanity, beauty and threat.

Earlier in the day, participants took part in an interactive workshop, Imagining the Shannon Estuary in 2100, led by Carl Cordonnier and Sandra Suire. This hands-on session invited the community to think creatively about the future — blending photography, mapping, and imagination to visualise how climate change might reshape our coastline in the decades to come.

Cultural Collaboration

Flow forms part of a cross-cultural dialogue between Ireland and France, reflecting shared coastal challenges and the universal language of art. The project not only highlights the environmental realities of rising sea levels but also celebrates the resilience of communities who continue to live, work, and create in the shadow of change.

We were delighted to welcome Josselin Le Gall, Honorary Consul of France, to the opening — marking this event as a moment of cultural connection and international collaboration in North Kerry.
