The ‘Troubled Times’ in North Kerry

In this new publication, author Martin Moore examines the dramatic events in North Kerry during the Irish War of Independence. Interestingly this study focuses on five events, which all occurred in a five mile radius, in the Listowel district, and within a ten week time-frame. These include an ambush on a military patrol, the shooting of alleged informers, the burning of a ‘Great House’ and the deaths of five IRA volunteers. This allows a fuller understanding of this microcosm of the Irish War of Independence, and its impacts on a community.
